Turku Art Museum in the program of Turku 2011
19.01.2011

The exhibition series ANIMATE is a collaboration between Turku Art Museum and Pori Art Museum
Artists have been using animation as a medium for decades. In recent years, however, animation has become more popular, and has developed into an important artistic discipline. The Turku Arts Academy has a nationally important and internationally acclaimed study programme in animation. The year 2011 is a suitable moment to examine the role of animation both as part of Finnish and international art, and as an independent art form. The Animate project is conducted in collaboration with the Turku Art Museum, the Pori Art Museum and the Turku University of Applied Sciences / Animation programme.

Carl Larsson – Dreams of Harmony at Turku Art Museum 16 Sep 2011 – 8 Jan 2012
The jubilee year 2011 will culminate with an exhibition featuring the lovable world of the Swedish master Carl Larsson. The extensive exhibition in the autumn will consist of central pieces from Larsson's production. The artist wife, Karin, their children and home were for Larsson a source of continuous inspiration, and his works became quintessential renderings of the Swedish ideal of a bourgeois family and also of picturesque Bohemian life. Larsson and his idiosyncratic, decorative style are best known from these watercolours depicting homely motifs, where time stands still in the balmy and serene mood of a childhood Sunday.
