DESIRES GRANTED OR DENIED

During landscape painter Victor Westerholm’s term as the first director of Turku Art Museum 1891–1919, the collections of the museum came to comprise altogether 400 works of art acquired by purchase or as a donation. Many of these works have subsequently become undisputed classics of Finnish art. The collection exhibition presents highlights from the classics alongside unrealised dreams – works that for some reason never became part of the collection. Read further


DICK BENGTSSON

Dick Bengtsson (1936–1989) is known as one of Sweden’s most prominent artists. The self-taught painter brought together a range of techniques in his works and encompassed idiosyncratic methods in his works. Bengtsson never gave his personal explanation of the often-surprising details and juxtapositions in his works, but to which the artist nevertheless appears to allude, laying bare the façade of the idyllic Folkhemmet. SASHA HUBER: SPACE RACE

For a decade Sasha Huber has been working worldwide artistically on the Demounting Louis Agassiz campaign through means of collaboration, photography, filming and interventions, around mapping reparative voices that are applied to her work as a practitioner who enters new spaces connected to the history of racism, an attempt to change the dynamics of the historical conversation. VAJIKO CHACHKHIANI: WINTER WHICH WAS NOT THERE

Winter which was not there (2017) by Georgian artist Vajiko Chachkhiani explores the dynamic between the historical and the personal and their psychological impact on the individual. Playing with the genres of cinema, the video tells a story about the burden of the past and release from that burden. Read further
